Downtown Art Gallery Expands Print E-mail

Some 40 local artists celebrate as Artists In Action’s Mission Beautification Gallery moves to the former AmSouth Bank Building on 400 Cleveland Street.

"This move marks incredible expansion for our gallery and our mission to beautify downtown Clearwater," says Jack Potter, Artists in Action International’s President. The gallery originally created in a storefront just down the street at 420 Cleveland, moves into some 9,000 square feet of space–the entire first floor of the building, thanks to the generosity of Kevin Burke, managing partner of the buildings. "I dreamt of a place like this," says Potter. "Our new home will be able to accommodate many more artists as well house our seminars and events for artists of all genres."

Lucky for all, the "all hands" move was just that. Artists were able to "walk" their paintings the few doors to their new home. Potter and Burke "sealed the deal" on January 22 and artists carted their canvasses down the street over the weekend.

Artists In Action International, Inc. is a 501C-3 non-profit organization that believes in using art in all forms, whether painting, sculpture, music, poetry, literature, dance, film or theater to impact the world. They participate in many downtown Clearwater events. Besides the gallery, they run a monthly “open mic” night at Pangea Café as well as their new “Poetry by Candlelight” at the gallery. A new branch of their organization, Actors in Action, is preparing members for professional careers followed by Musicians In Action with similar purpose.

On Saturday, March 21, Artists In Action International will hold their Second Anniversary Celebration. Their membership has grown to over 130 since last year.

The new gallery is open 6:00 - 10:00 pm Fridays and 10:00 - 4:00 pm Saturdays. A grand opening gala is being planned and will be announced soon. Area artists and art supporters are invited to Artists In Action’s weekly Sunday meetings from 4:00 -5:30 p.m. at Jim Warren’s Gallery, 639 Cleveland, across of the downtown post office.
